4MP BOBBY & HyALI'S TEN SONGS 4 THE WEEK
Rylo Rodriguez - Melvin
Rylo doesn’t have to rap on beat to own it, shit just happens. The Mobile native’s lyrics effortlessly blend in to the instrumental, creating a sound that's distinct and always comes off heartfelt. I don’t know what this song has to do with incarcerated rapper YNW Melly, but “You couldn't pay me to murk my niggas, free Melvin,” sounds hypnotizing and tugs at the heart.
Shordie Shordie - Holidays
Fuck, this put me in my feels. Deadass woke up and texted my ex this song, and I didn’t even like her family’s holiday cooking. This isn’t one of those sad, cry-in-a-corner songs, though. It’ll put you in a great mood, reminiscing over a lot of dope moments you had with old work. Shordie Shordie is on fire, and in the running with 03 Greedo for the game’s Best Harmonizer Award.
03 Greedo ft. Shoreline Mafia - Trap House
Location: Los Angeles, CA
03 Greedo’s Still Summer in the Projects is the best project released so far in 2019 and it’s not even close. The Wolf of Grape Street eats everything, including this summertime anthem featuring Shoreline Mafia. Shoreline’s OGeesy (yo, one of the homies called him a jewish boul this weekend) wins best verse on this track by a mile, but 03’s hook is infectious and for all my get $$$ boys evading the IRS. This that shit that propels you through a long weekend of cheating. Free 03!
Lil Keed ft. Young Thug - Proud of Me
When I first heard this song on one of Thug’s mixtapes in 2015, I thought it was going to be the moment when everyone realized that Jeffery Lamar Williams is honestly Cher 3.0, and his career would reach a stratosphere that only few have seen. I don’t want to talk about what happened in between, and I hate he gave this song to Li’l Keed, but fuck…..the hook and Thug’s verses on this are God Level. “Every night we get a kick out of it like spike.” Thug is an alien, man.
PNB Rock - My Ex
Nobody makes melodies for ain’t shit niggas better than PNB Rock. This is heartfelt.
ScHoolboy Q ft. Ty Dolla $ign & YG - Lies
South Central Los Angeles
A whole three years since his last studio album, ScHoolboy Q blesses his fanbase with the long awaited CrasH Talk. Been a tough time for the Bucket Hat Huncho, losing close friend Mac Miller and fellow LA native Nip Hussle all within less than a year. Channeling his grief into art, this track featuring YG and Dolla $ign is everything you’d want from this Los Angeles connect.
Rotimi - Love Riddim
Some light dancehall that is better felt with ya shirt all the way unbuttoned and a combination of cheap jewelry, sweat, and chest hair flourishing in the ambiance.
Anderson .Paak ft. Smokey Robinson - Make It Better
All Praise to the soul legend Smokey Robinson. The guitars, the strings, the harmonies; A entire throwback vibe, that only these two could produce. My ass was looking in the mirror for 10 minutes of straight self reflection after hearing the angels sing “And it's easier to run away / Than to look for what would make you stay, Do you want to make it betterrrrrrr” .
BURNS, A$AP Rocky & Sabrina Claudio - Energy
Just in time for the pretty weather and pretty sundresses, Rocky’s flow meets Claudio’s melodic vocals in a jam that will draw you to the dance floor will ease. Might even wanna provide a hug or two in the midst of this euphonic musical trance.
