4MP HyALI'S FIVE SONGS 4 THE WEEK
KAYTRANADA & VanJess - Dysfunctional
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Montreal-based producer KAYTRANADA’s music is my entire spirit & this soulful house inspired collab with Nigerian-American R&B duo VanJess further justifies my view on his work. A summer chune, a feel-good chune, a dance chune on ya head top ya know.
Calboy ft. Meek Mill, Lil Durk & Young Thug - Chariot
The Energyyyyyy. Gimme that energy Calboy! Beware this is an extremely active slap so proceed accordingly. Yesterday, I was Mike Bibby in the weight room with this on repeat. Barak Allah Meek & Jeff.
Bad Bunny & Tainy - Callaita
Almirante Sur, Vega Baja, Puerto Rico
I’m the biggest dummy for being super late to the Bad Bunny wave. I’m here now and fully invested. This track popped my cherry, and for those who are virgins/novices to his work, hopefully this joint is as eye-opening for you as it was to me. I’ll probably never figure out what he’s actually saying but this shit goes..
Jacquees - Who’s
Never truly understood the slander, but Jacquees is the only artist that provides some of the early 2000s R&B feels to the table. His music video presence can be described as cringeworthy at times, but his talent can’t ever be denied. I’ve been killing these vocals in traffic, lemme tell you (flame emoji).
Burna Boy - Ye
Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria
Shouts to Kanye for accidentally leading his fans to this track back in 2008, *unpopular opinion alert* this track is better than anything from his Ye album but that’s neither here nor there. Luv to Burna Boy for this track tho. A polyrhythmic dancehall vibe that’s not overbearing; something light you can get ya lil groove on to when it spontaneously comes on in the function. Proceed to dap the DJ after the track runs.
