Each year, millions of fans worldwide are captivated by the brilliance of amateur hoopers slicing through the lane and ruining their opponents’ chances at victory one floater at a time. While many of us are posted in a bar or on a couch, pounding ice-cold beers while screaming at the TV and enjoying the madness that takes place in March, representatives of 68 universities are balancing books and their basketball mortalities. Some players are wrestling with the reality that this is their last chance to play on U.S. soil or on TV in front of family and friends. Others are looking to shoot up draft boards and earn financial freedom not only for themselves, but their loved ones as well. The emotion, resilience and skill it takes to compete at one of the highest levels will be on display for a national audience, and roundball players from a plethora of backgrounds and circumstances will compete to cement their legacies and become household names for an extended period of time.
