Last Chance U To The League: Ronald Ollie Signs With The Raiders
The first season of the wildly popular Netflix series Last Chance U introduced us to Ronald Ollie, a loveable character whose road from the wildly impoverished Shubuta, Miss. (pop. 416, median income: $18,000) to East Mississippi, Community College included hurdles that would’ve broken the strongest of humans. When we first saw Ollie put on the pads, he stood out, flashing the traits -- elite quickness and strength -- that invoke boners from NFL brass. His play on the field, however, was only half the battle. While trying to find himself and deal with the demons that haunted his upbringing, Ollie clashed with coach Buddy Stephens and academic adviser Brittany Wagner, threatening to quit the team and go home. Despite the tribulations, the defensive tackle found ways to survive, ultimately earning a deal at Nicholls State, where he left the squad after his first season only to return and continue his dream of one day playing in the NFL after a "Come to Jesus" meeting with trainer Justin Allen -- the brother of NFL tight end Dwayne Allen. On May 6, 2019, that dream came true, as he signed with the Raiders after wowing the coaching staff at a tryout. Salute to Big Ollie. We wish him the most success on his journey to a better life.
Look at Big Ollie with the pencil in hand. I see you, boy!
