Last Chance U Szn 4: Indy Part 2
Take HBO's Hard Knocks, mix it in a blender with Friday Night Lights, and pepper in a few more psychopath coaches, you’d have Netflix’s Last Chance U, which returns Friday. A gripping docuseries following the lives of coaches, counselors and college football players at the JUCO level, Last Chance U isn't your typical jock-doc. Instead of just focusing on the brutish nature of the game, playbook talk and nothing more, Netflix goes behind-the-scenes to cover the personal lives and journeys of JUCO players, humanizing student-athletes in an unprecedented manner.
It’s no secret that JUCO football is the last resort. To wind up in one of the random bumfuck towns where JUCOs reside, a few things would have needed to happen -- you faced tremendous hardship, failed to qualify academically, got kicked out of your previous university, just stink or all of the above. It's not the cushy lifestyle of Division 1 Football, where players ball in front of five-to-six figure crowds with everything waiting at your fingertips besides *cough money *cough. With a goal of getting the hell out of dodge and either returning or landing at a major program, players sacrifice their sanity and do what they have to do to get by.
Season 4 of Last Chance U returns to Independence Community College, where a fake ass, cigar-smoking, delusional, wannabe Suge Knight from Compton named Jason Brown (he was fired in February for telling a German recruit, "I'm your new Hitler figure out your life.") leads the Pirates. In Season 3, Brown led the team to a program-best 9-2 record, its first Jayhawk Conference championship since 1977 and its first bowl victory in program history. With a cast of new characters making up the new season, grab your Cognac, do what you do and enjoy the show.
